When a marriage feels like it is hanging by a thread, many couples don’t know where to turn. One partner may be leaning out of the relationship while the other is desperate to save it. Conversations often become painful, repetitive, or emotionally shut down. In these moments, traditional couples therapy may not feel like the right fit.
This is where Discernment Counseling can make a profound difference.
Discernment Counseling is a short-term, structured approach designed specifically for couples on the brink of divorce or separation. Instead of pressuring couples to “fix the marriage,” it helps them gain clarity and confidence about the future of their relationship.
For couples feeling uncertain, hopeless, or emotionally exhausted, Discernment Counseling offers a path forward with honesty, compassion, and direction.
What Is Discernment Counseling?
Discernment Counseling is designed for “mixed-agenda” couples — relationships where one partner is considering leaving while the other wants to preserve the marriage.
Unlike traditional marriage counseling, Discernment Counseling does not immediately focus on communication skills or conflict resolution. Instead, it helps couples slow down reactive decision-making and understand how they arrived at this crisis point.
For many couples, this process creates emotional clarity they have not felt in years. Often, the relief of finally having a safe space to talk honestly about the years of resentment and hopelessness is very comforting.
